Do You Own a Kontessa Espresso Pot?

Here’s how to care for your Kontessa espresso pot

Your Kontessa espresso pot is a purchase for good taste. And in order to keep the quality cups of coffee, you will need to follow a few guidelines in caring for a Kontessa espresso pot. Considered a piece of coffee art, the Kontessa espresso pot can stay on your countertop for years with this advice.

A little elbow grease needed

Just like a delicate dish, your Kontessa espresso pot needs a good hand wash to keep it looking great.

Wash each part with soapy warm water after each use.

This includes the gaskets on the Kontessa espresso pot. To keep these running for a year or more, you will need a dull knife or screwdriver to remove it. If the gasket looks cracked or dried out, it’s time to replace it.

Of course, if you notice that steam is escaping from above or below the gasket, that’s a pretty good indicator that you’ll need to replace it.

Maintenance issues

On the other hand, the overpressure plug on your Kontessa espresso pot should last for many more years than the gasket. To take care of it, make sure that you do not press down too hard on the coffee grounds when tamping them.

Instead, lightly smooth the coffee while hitting the funnel in a downwards motion to help even out the grounds. Remember that the plug on a Kontessa espresso pot is a safety mechanism to allow steam to escape.

Did you know. . . In about 1400, it is said that a Yemeni shepherd noticed his goats eating red berries from a bush and becoming agitated. Taking the berries to a monk, the shepherd and monk found that distilling the berries in water made a potent drink -- coffee.

A word of caution

If you apply heat near your Kontessa espresso pot, you will want to make sure that you keep it low. Place the heat under the pot and this will prevent a bluish discoloration.

Unfortunately, you may not be able to avoid these color changes on the inside and outside of a Kontessa espresso pot but don’t worry, it’s normal.

By avoiding heat and extra minerals, your Kontessa espresso pot will remain a helpful fixture in your kitchen. And if you want to brighten up your Kontessa espresso pot, then a little silver polish can shine up the outside.
