How To Choose An Espresso Machine For Home

You don’t have to work hard to find an espresso machine

An espresso machine is a must for any espresso fan. And with the rising prices of coffee and espresso drinks, an espresso machine will end up saving you money in the long run. But you will have to pick an espresso machine based on your needs and your knowledge.

What do you know?

In order to use your espresso machine properly and duplicate the drinks that you get at your local coffee shop, you will need to be able to figure out the buttons and wands.

A good espresso machine will be electronic these days and have a button that is pushed in order to produce espresso shots.

The water that is pushed through the espresso should be pressurized and create enough force to help the grounds release their flavor as well as create crema on the top of an espresso shot (this is a caramel colored foam).

You need to have quality espresso that is ground fine for your espresso machine.

To use the steam wand, you will just need practice. All baristas (coffee bartenders) have hours of practice on this -- so will you.

What to look for

An espresso machine that is higher quality will have a heftier price tag.

You want to look for brand names as well as Italian made brands in order to find a great espresso machine. And while you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars, you can expect to spend hundreds.

Look for a high quality portafilter (brew basket) that is heavy enough to withstand a lot of use. You can test this by picking it up.

The area in which you put the portafilter will need to be sturdy as well in your espresso machine. You will be removing and replacing the portafilter numerous times through the life of the machine, so it needs to be able to stand up to use.

Your espresso machine will also need to have some sort of customer support service in order to repair anything that breaks along the way.

A good espresso machine will last for years when you take the time to choose.
